Kangaroo Point Bikeway - stage 1B

Brisbane City Council is pleased to release the preliminary design for stage 1B of the Kangaroo Point Bikeway upgrade project.

Council is developing stage 1 of the Kangaroo Point Bikeway upgrade project, which is part of Council’s Better Bikeways for Brisbane program, creating dedicated bikeways and active travel options with a $100 million investment from 2016 to 2020 to extend Brisbane’s network of bikeways, improving access to local destinations and the CBD.

The project will provide a safer environment for cyclists and pedestrians and plays an important role in Brisbane's bicycle network connecting Brisbane's Central Business District (CBD) with the southern, south-eastern and eastern suburbs.

Council is aware of the current conflicts that exist between users within stage 1B (Dock Street to Goodwill Bridge). The preliminary design for stage 1B aims to improve both the safety and usability for all cyclists, pedestrians and motorists and includes the following proposed improvements and features:

  • installation of a ‘cycle street’ – a proposed bicycle and vehicle shared-use area on Little Dock Street
  • installation of a shared zone at the Goodwill Bridge forecourt
  • installation of improved pedestrian crossing points at the Goodwill Bridge forecourt and on Little Dock Street
  • construction of improved pedestrian and cyclist facilities beside the Griffith University Film School from Little Dock Street to the intersection of Dock Street, Vulture Street and Stanley Street
  • removal of the cycle ramp and redirection of cyclists to the new stage 1A dedicated bikeway along Dock Street
  • improvements to landscaping
  • upgrade to the intersection of Little Dock Street and Dock Street to facilitate the transition from the 'cycle street' to the new stage 1A dedicated bikeway.

The project team has previously sought feedback on stage 1A (Veloway 1 connection at the Pacific Motorway underpass in South Brisbane to Little Dock Street) and stage 1C (intersection of Dock Street and Vulture Street). Thank you for providing your feedback on those stages. Detailed design for stages 1A and 1C is being progressed following consultation with the community in November 2017.

Community engagement is now closed for this project.
