Brisbane Off-Road Cycling Project – Concept Plans

Council is creating a city-wide plan to guide the future delivery of off-road cycling opportunities and facilities for children, adults and families within bushland reserves and parks.

This is part of Brisbane City Council's commitment to creating more to see and do in a city that is clean and green, so you can enjoy Brisbane’s beautiful climate while connecting with the people and places that make our city great.

Project background

This plan is being developed due to a growing demand for off-road cycling opportunities in Council parks and bushland reserves. Planning for and providing suitable facilities helps meet the growing demand, increases user satisfaction and better protects bushland reserve values including putting facilities in low impact locations.

There is a growing demand for off-road cycling in Brisbane, which includes:

  • mountain bike riding
  • gravel riding
  • cyclo-cross
  • riding on trails
  • pump tracks
  • skill tracks
  • dirt jumps

The planning priority for bushland reserves is nature conservation, followed by the provision of outdoor recreation opportunities.

About the project

The planning process has reviewed bushland reserves and parks across the city as suitable for off-road cycling facilities. Within bushland reserves, this included conserving the natural environment and identifying suitable low impact locations such as existing fire trails and shared use of other tracks. Unvegetated areas may also be suitable for supporting facilities such as skills tracks.

Within parks, possible locations for facilities, such as skills and pump tracks and jumps have been identified as most suitable in locations with complementary facilities such as skate parks/BMX tracks, youth precincts, and areas close to schools or sporting facilities.

Council is seeking community feedback on draft concept plans for future off-road cycling opportunities and facilities around Brisbane.
