Consultation has concluded

Updated September 2021

Consultation on the BNE Local and Liveable project at Ellen Grove Shopping Centre has now concluded. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. Your feedback will help to inform the evaluation of the project and possible changes to the activation ideas.

About BNE Local and Liveable

Brisbane City Council is testing creative ideas with the community that make neighbourhood centres great places to visit, with more for you to do and see. BNE Local and Liveable projects aim to enhance local identity and improve neighbourhoods using short-term, low cost and scalable actions.

Ellen Grove Shopping Centre project

To kick-start BNE Local and Liveable projects, our focus is to test activation ideas at the Ellen Grove shopping centre.

To help shape the development of a site plan and proposed activation ideas, Council undertook an assessment of the project focus area to understand opportunities and constraints and consulted with local residents, community groups and businesses. Council also considered previous ideas that had been co-designed in 2018 with the community, university students, and Council's Community Development team.

In this first season of BNE Local and Liveable, Council is testing a variety of pre-designed or customised streetscape elements. For the Ellen Grove project, an additional dimension is being added with a welcoming mural and activation of the new street corner space.

After an initial 8-week installation period, community feedback and a site evaluation will help to determine what happens to the projects' activation elements.

Temporary activation ideas for Ellen Grove BNE project

The activation ideas to be tested in the project area are:

  1. Shade sails and ‘Twig’ seats
  2. A ‘Welcome to Ellen Grove’ mural
  3. Games on the ground.
