Where is Milton Urban Common located?

The proposed park area consists of three properties located on the corner of Manning Street and Railway Terrace, Milton.  The land was acquired by Council in 2014 to enable this first stage of the Milton Urban Common project to be delivered.

What is the Milton Urban Common project?

Milton Urban Common will see the creation of a newly publicly-accessible recreational park, adding to the more than 2000 parks across our city.  The park will provide a space for a variety of uses, including shady spots to have lunch and a grassy area for picnics and recreational activities.

The Milton Urban Common will deliver a space that:
- increases accessible green space
- promotes a sense of community
- encourages the recreational use of the area

What is the purpose of the project?

Brisbane City Council is committed to keeping Brisbane clean and green, making our city liveable and sustainable for future generations.  As part of this vision, Council is seeking community feedback on the proposed concept plan for Milton Urban Common.

The purpose of this project is to create an urban common that becomes a unique public space for Milton.  It will encourage active and passive recreation and include features such as shade trees, lighting, shelter and seating.

What sort of works are proposed as part of the project?

The work will be undertaken in stages, with this first stage of works proposing to deliver:
- green open space
- a footpath connecting Railway Terrace and Manning Street, providing easy and safe pedestrian travel
- subtropical landscaping, including large feature trees and lush gardens
- seating walls and a sheltered area with bench seating and tables
- toilet facilities

When will Council announce the final project design?

Online feedback on the draft concept plan will be accepted between mid-February to mid-March 2018.  Community engagement sessions will be held in early March 2018.  Following community consultation, analysis of feedback and sharing of the final design for the project will occur in mid-2018.  In finalising the park's design, Council will review feedback provided during the consultation process and will focus on works with the greatest community benefits.

How will further stages of the project affect the area?

As detailed in the 2014 Milton Station neighbourhood plan, a partial closure of Manning Street is proposed to increase the public space for the community.

The street closure will not occur during this initial phase of work; they are proposed to occur during future upgrade stages.  Additional community consultation as well as relevant parking and traffic investigations will occur prior to any future road closures.
