Stage 1: Opportunities Plan - proposed improvements (completed)

Council has prepared an Opportunities Plan for the Park Road, Milton precinct, considering the existing site conditions and site investigation findings.

The plan includes the following considerations and proposed improvements.

Improvement option 1: Streetscape upgrades at the corner of Park Road and Gordon Street (adjoining Adam Smiddy Park)

To improve connection to Adam Smiddy Park, both visual and physical, Council is proposing to upgrade the interface between the streetscape and the park. This includes upgrading the footpath at the street corner of Park Road and Gordon Street to improve pedestrian accessibility and amenity. Additionally, the proposed park upgrade includes revitalised landscaping to garden beds, new street trees and furniture refresh to improve physical and visual amenity.

Improvement option 2: Park Road refresh

To improve precinct accessibility and physical and visual amenity, a declutter of the existing streetscape infrastructure is proposed, including but not limited to the decommissioning and removal of the existing bespoke bike racks and signage blades.

Existing street furniture proposed to be decommissioned as part of the VPP to improve streetscape and pedestrian amenity.

Proposed creative outcomes

Public art and creative outcomes enhance precinct character and identity and create a focal point for the community.

As part of the Park Road, Milton Opportunities Plan, Council has identified two creative outcome opportunities to reinforce Park Road's identity and character.

Improvement option 3: Precinct signage

The proposed precinct signage is located at the intersection of Coronation Drive and Park Road and is intended to be a gateway into the precinct. The proposed signage could be text based, large scale, brightly coloured and have both a day and night presence.

The precinct signage is proposed to be observed from various perspectives, including Coronation Drive, Brisbane River and West End, with the purpose of reinforcing Park Road’s identity and encouraging economic uplift within the precinct.

Improvement option 4: Placemaking markers

The proposed placemaking markers are located along Park Road (quantity and locations to be confirmed) and are intended to improve the precinct’s identity, provide a community focal point, and bring a playful element to the centre.

The placemaking markers could explore and celebrate local history, character, memory, meaning and creativity whilst also bringing beauty into the streetscape in an innovative way. The placemaking markers propose to integrate lighting, which will provide both a day and night presence along the Park Road streetscape.
