Sandgate Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan project
We’re working with the community to create the Sandgate Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan to guide future development and support a more connected, convenient and vibrant bayside community.
Sandgate Centre is well placed for renewal, with strong foundations including local shops and services, a train station and bus connections, and easy access to valued natural areas such as the foreshore and parks.
The precinct plan will have 4 main themes:
Housing choice: More homes for different household types through updated zoning and housing options.
Vibrant village: More to see and do, with great public spaces and opportunities for local dining, shops and businesses.
Subtropical lifestyle: Buildings and public spaces designed with shade and greenery for comfortable outdoor living.
Connecting people and places: Safer, more convenient walking, cycling and public transport connections.

Council will review your initial input and consider it when preparing the draft precinct plan.
Early 2027 – Public consultation on the draft plan
this is an upcoming stage for Sandgate Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan project
Council will invite feedback from the community and Queensland Government on the draft precinct plan.
Early 2027 – Review feedback
this is an upcoming stage for Sandgate Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan project
Council will review all feedback on the draft precinct plan and make required updates to create a final version for adoption.
Mid-late 2027 - Final plan and adoption
this is an upcoming stage for Sandgate Centre Suburban Renewal Precinct Plan project
Council will add the final adopted precinct plan to Brisbane City Plan 2014 (City Plan) – the local planning scheme – so it can be used when assessing future development applications.
What are suburban renewal precinct plans?
Precinct plans guide how we renew suburbs so communities can thrive. They aim to enable more housing choices, support jobs, and meet the targets set in the Queensland Government’s South East Queensland Regional Plan 2023 (ShapingSEQ 2023).
These plans look at land use, zoning, design, sustainability and connectivity. They will inform infrastructure planning with the goal of building vibrant and welcoming places.
