Toowong intersection improvements and Sylvan Road bikeway project
This community engagement has now closed. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
The project will deliver a safer, separated cycling route linking the Western Freeway Bikeway and Bicentennial Bikeway, alongside upgrades to intersections and the road network to make it safer and easier to travel through this area.
In mid-2025 we invited the community to share their experiences travelling through the Sylvan Road project area, aiming to understand your perspectives for local road network improvements and inform concept designs.
We recently sought your feedback on 2 concept designs for a separated bikeway along Sylvan Road and Land Street, as well as nearby intersection and network improvements. This feedback period is now closed, and we're working to refine a final concept design for the corridor.
Community feedback and final concept design
Both options received positive feedback from the community, but the continuous bi-directional bikeway design was more strongly supported and will be progressing.
Next steps
The concept design for Sylvan Road and Lane Street is currently being refined based on our feedback and our technical requirements. We'll share the final concept design and more about what we heard from the community soon.
We'll then develop the detailed design and share more information before construction starts in 2027, with timing depending on design progress. Construction on improvements at the Milton Road, Croydon Street and Morley Street intersection started in August 2026 and is expected to be completed in early 2027, weather and site conditions permitting.
Concept designs
In May 2026, we shared 2 different design options covering the same area but delivering different changes to existing conditions. Each design delivered benefits and carefully balanced the needs of residents and travellers. The concept designs included:
- A continuous bi-directional bikeway
- A part uni-directional/part bi-directional bikeway.
We invited you to provide feedback on one or both concept designs by completing an online feedback survey. Two information pop-up sessions also provided opportunities to learn about the project:
The community was able to provide their feedback between 18 May and 14 June 2026.
This community engagement has now closed. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
