We're planning remediation works at Victor Grenning Park to fix historic asbestos contamination beneath the surface. As part of these works, the playground, trees and park amenities will be temporarily removed before being reinstated. This created an opportunity for the community to help shape how parts of the renewed space will look and feel.

As we restore the park, there was an opportunity for the community to help shape some of its future features. We sought feedback on key elements of the playground and surrounding parkland, including preferred playground themes, such as natural or urban styles, and ideas for tree planting and landscaping.

While the playground's location and size will stay the same, the feedback received will help shape the character and appearance of the renewed park, creating a welcoming space for the community to enjoy for years to come.

Why we’re doing this work

We found historic asbestos contamination in parts of Victor Grenning Park during works to install a shade sail over the playground last year. As a precaution, the playground was temporarily closed while further investigations were carried out.

Those investigations found asbestos contamination at varying depths across the park. As a result, several small areas have also been fenced off, and we continue to monitor the site to ensure the park remains safe for the community.

Over the coming months, we’ll start work on a permanent fix to remove the contamination and reinstate the park. To safely complete these works, the whole park will need to close while remediation is underway. We'll keep the community informed and provide further details as plans are finalised and we get closer to work starting on site.
