Streetscape improvement examples

As part of this project, we aim to strengthen connections to, within, and through the precinct, while celebrating its unique character and identity. Potential improvements may include:

  • Wayfaring elements
  • Public art installations
  • Creative lighting
  • Comfortable seating areas
  • Enhanced pedestrian connectivity
  • Street trees and landscaping
  • Upgraded footpath surfaces.


Below are examples of streetscape enhancements delivered across Brisbane through previous Council public space improvement projects.

The painted artwork finish is Care (2022) and At Night (2022) by Tori-Jay Mordey. The distinctive sculptures are part of the Paddington Terraces Kooka! trail which includes 24 Kooka! sculptures, across 16 locations, each with unique artworks by various local artists for the community and visitors to explore. Detail of a planting area integrated with concrete platform steps that creatively provide informal seating and connection between the street and park area. The Pee Wee bird silhouettes form part of the artwork series Duet (2021) by Belinda Smith which provides additional site character and identity within the streetscape.

The textured cast aluminium sculpture is placed within streetscape planting and adjoins a seating area greatly enhancing amenity and sense of place. The engaging, small scale animal sculptures are integrated with the street furniture and buffered by a garden bed and shade trees encouraging play and discovery.  The artwork includes an owl with a frog sitting on its head leaning towards the bench seat ready for a conversation, while a duck standing on a turtle resting upon the rock seat is an opportunity to pause and interact.
