Why is Council upgrading the playground?
The Enchanted Forest playground is nearly 20 years old and the equipment is due for renewal. This upgrade will refresh the playground so families can continue enjoying a safe, engaging and accessible place to play well into the future, while keeping the unique character that makes it so popular.
Will it still be called the Enchanted Forest?
Yes, Council intends to retain the Enchanted Forest name because it is well known and popular with playground users.
What did the community tell you was most important?
The strongest feedback themes were keeping the Enchanted Forest character, protecting shade and mature trees, improving play variety, catering for a wider range of ages, and providing more seating, comfort and easy supervision for families.
The upgraded playground keeps the Enchanted Forest character by building on the same magical, nature-based style the community already knows and loves.
The final design includes three enchanted-themed play zones that encourage children to explore and play creatively: The Enchanted Village with a multi-level playground, The Whispering Woods with the Witches House, and Mushroom Hollow with giant toadstools and a mushroom cubby.
It also includes bespoke features like the storybook-inspired Enchanted Gateway entrance, the friendly Forest Troll, Sleeping Dragons Den along with discovery trails, cubby houses, garden planting and nature-based play elements. Natural materials such as timber, rocks and garden beds are used throughout the playground, with new trees planted and existing trees to be protected and retained to ensure this special park retains its unique magical feel.
Will there be features for older kids?
Yes. The upgraded playground includes more varied and challenging play opportunities designed to better cater to older children.
I didn't get a chance to have my say on the concept plan?
We understand not everyone can take part during engagement. We undertook community engagement including an online feedback survey and in-person information kiosks held at the park.
These opportunities were advertised through Council channels and Enoggera Ward Office. Feedback received during this time has been considered alongside technical investigations to inform the final concept plan.
We’ll continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.
When will Council deliver the upgrades to the playground?
The expected time frame for start of construction is late 2026 (TBC).
