What is the project focus area?

The project focus area includes Melton Road in Nundah/Northgate, between Toombul Road and Walkers Way. We're also looking at all intersections along Melton Road.

    Why is my feedback important?

We want to understand the experiences of the community who live in, visit and travel along Melton Road.

We're interested in where you see opportunities to improve safety, accessibility and amenity and the challenges you face when moving along the road corridor.

Your feedback will be considered alongside technical data and design standards to help shape future improvements for residents, visitors and commuters.

What are the next steps after this community engagement stage has closed?

Once the community engagement period ends, community feedback will be considered alongside technical inputs to help inform future potential improvements.

We will keep the community updated and share more information about the project as it progresses.

What kind of upgrades will be considered?

As part of Brisbane's Suburban Corridor Modernisation program, we'll consider small but meaningful upgrades. These could include:

    • minor intersection safety improvements
    • upgrading pedestrian crossings
    • adding kerb build outs
    • updating line markings
    • improving signage
    • minor footpath upgrades.

What are the potential project impacts to the community?

Project impacts can be temporary, such as disruption during a construction period, or more permanent such as changes to the way a road operates. The specific impacts for the Melton Road corridor will be determined through the design process.

Broadly, Council must adhere to safety conditions and standards including Austroads Guides, which are nationally accepted standards for the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the road network in Australia. To ensure these standards are met, there may be impacts to things like on-street parking, bus stop locations and vegetation in the project area.

Council always looks to minimise disruptions to the existing road network, residents and businesses through all project developments.

We'll keep the community informed about any expected impacts as the project processes.

    What is the construction time?

We're currently in the planning phase and undertaking investigations to inform potential future improvements for this project. This is one of the early stages of project development.

Future construction timing is dependent on design development and the availability of funding. We'll project updates to the community as the project progresses.

Can Council improve the off-road carpark at Northgate train station?

Changes to the off-road car park on Melton Road at Northgate train station are outside of the scope of this project as this is a Queensland Government asset.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads previously undertook an investigation into expanding this parking facility. You can read about it on their Northgate station park 'n' ride business case webpage.
