Community consultation for the Quirk Street Precinct, The Gap closed on 28 November 2022. Thank you to those who contributed their feedback.
The Quirk Street Precinct in The Gap is an area where Council has received requests for Local Area Traffic Management (LATM). LATM may involve the construction of traffic management devices to discourage the use of local streets by through traffic, and other devices that improve access, safety and connectivity for other road users.
In response to concerns and suggestions about traffic management throughout the precinct, Council would like to take this opportunity to hear your views on traffic management, and what types of measures you may support being constructed on your street and within your local area.
A fact sheet with information about LATM options and potential treatments is available here, which can help inform your feedback on the proposal. We encourage you to read the fact sheet, and view the information in the LATM Options tab below prior to providing feedback on this proposal.
Your feedback is important and will be used to understand if there is community support for an LATM scheme for Quirk Street precinct and guide any future design investigations.

Advantages
Moderate vehicle speeds at intersections
Improve driving paths
Improve pedestrian access and safety
Disadvantages
Typically require additional No Stopping conditions, resulting in the loss of street parking opportunities, to maintain vehicle access and provide improved sight lines for all road users.
Considerations
May require upgrades to road lighting
May not be suitable for all locations, for example, at narrow intersections

Advantages
Moderate vehicle speeds and discourage non-local traffic use when constructed at regular intervals along streets
Can be considered as an alternative when speed platforms are unsuitable, for example, where there are regularly spaced driveways
May incorporate landscaping
Maintain access for all types of vehicles that may be expected to use the street
Disadvantages
Typically result in the loss of street parking opportunities to ensure vehicle and property access is maintained at all times (e.g. for emergency services)
Considerations
May require upgrades to road lighting
May not be suitable for all locations, for example, where a large number of motorists use the road at certain times throughout the day
