Slow Point
Advantages
- Moderate vehicle speeds and discourage non-local traffic use when constructed at regular intervals along streets
- Can be considered as an alternative when speed platforms are unsuitable, for example, where there are regularly spaced driveways
- May incorporate landscaping
- Maintain access for all types of vehicles that may be expected to use the street
Disadvantages
- Typically result in the loss of street parking opportunities to ensure vehicle and property access is maintained at all times (e.g. for emergency services)
Considerations
- May require upgrades to road lighting
- May not be suitable for all locations, for example, where a large number of motorists use the road at certain times throughout the day
