FAQs
What is a draft improvement plan?
A draft improvement plan is a visionary ideas plan developed to support community engagement and help the community provide feedback on proposed works or new features. The purpose of a draft improvement plan is to provide a visual aid to give the community a better picture of what may be possible and the approximate location of the proposed features. The draft improvement plan for Wynnum Wading Pool Park, W Poole. playground may not include specific details such as the style, and design. This detail will be developed as part of the detailed design.
How was the W. Poole Playground draft improvements plan developed?
After assessing the existing playground equipment, the existing established heritage trees surrounding and within the playground area, and conducting site investigations, Council has developed a draft concept plan for a playground upgrade that aims to meet the diverse needs of the community.
What are the draft improvement plan constraints?
This playground is located in a park which has state and local heritage values which need to be protected into the future. The playground is also located within the footprint of some very large and significant trees.
These trees have established over time and their root systems have expanded into the sand areas beneath the playground. This has influenced the scale and type of improvements that are being proposed, to ensure that these trees are not negatively impacted.
As such, the playground needs to remain approximately the same size and cannot accommodate large footings that are required for larger, taller structures.
The improvements proposed however add much more fun and play value to the existing playground and will be enjoyed by families for many years to come.
What's the extent of the project focus area?
This upgrade project focuses on the W. Poole playground, or dry play area, of the Wynnum Wading Pool Park and does not include the Whimsical Whales water play area or the playground further to the north.
Why are the heritage trees not depicted on this plan?
Council is committed to protecting the natural heritage values of the area, and the proposed works in the draft improvement plan will not have a negative impact on the existing vegetation or require Council to remove any existing trees.
Will the nearby toilet block be upgraded to include showers?
Council has plans to install a shower and drainage into the change rooms in the nearby toilet box in this financial year (weather and site conditions permitting). There is no other work planned in the area.
Will any trees be removed as part of the project?
It is not anticipated that trees will be removed as part of this project and is dependent on future investigations and detailed design.
Why is the climbing net fenced off?
The team checking maintenance in the playground noticed that there was a fault in the chain link that they deemed unsafe. This area will be closed until it can be repaired or replaced.
What happened to the pool during winter?
The pool is annually drained and cleaned for maintenance during winter (approx. June-September).
